The characteristic clinical sign of adenoma - detection of the thyroid gland of the node that has a rounded or oval shape, smooth surface and sharp edges. Sometimes there are multiple adenomas in one or both lobes of thyroid gland. Perhaps a combination of adenomas with goiter and cancer in the form of isolated nodes.

Diagnosis of thyroid adenoma:
Diagnosis is by ultrasound (U.S.) and cytological study. Biopsy material obtained by puncture site. With small adenomas puncture aspiration biopsy performed under ultrasound. With aspiration biopsy in 80% of the cases can be distinguished adenoma from cancer. Plummer adenoma on scintigrams has the form of limited hot (hyper-functioning) node.
