The disease occurs in people of all ages, but more often in men than in women. Chordoma of the skull base are more common in younger patients, whereas the sacral chordomas are more common in the elderly.
Not currently identified any causes for this tumor and high-risk groups. Situation where the among close relatives have been documented cases of chordoma is rare, and therefore assumed that the tumor is not hereditary.
